The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism has announced the launch of an energy efficiency campaign for tourist accommodation units, including hotel establishments, villages, apartments and tourist complexes. She added that registration is open until November 19th.
Marta Guerreiro was speaking on the sidelines of a visit to the Caloura Hotel Resort in São Miguel, a venture that considered an example of energy performance. Earlier this year, the Hotel took the initiative to train its employees in energy efficiency, with the support of the Regional Energy Board, which carried out an awareness-raising action.
“The campaign consists of the training on energy efficiency dedicated to the units registered in all the islands”, stated Marta Guerreiro, adding that a specific action will be held on November 27, at the Regional Civil Engineering Laboratory in Ponta Delgada.
“Subsequently, each venture must submit a proposed energy efficiency plan that includes the measures it deems appropriate and possible to implement in its establishment,” she added.
Among all participations, Marta Guerreiro pointed out, “10 entities will be selected that will receive technical support for the implementation of the measures, and will be awarded with charging points for electric vehicles for installation in their infrastructures.”
“This is a measure that aims to promote the best practices of energy efficiency and energy management in tourism accommodation units, boosting sustainable growth and competitiveness in the sector, enabling effective management of their consumption with the goal of reducing energy bills, but also the decarbonisation of the Region, ”said the Regional Secretary.
“The main objective of the Government of the Azores is transversal to all families and all sectors of activity”, stated Marta Guerreiro, highlighting the importance of “providing information, essential tools and support to entrepreneurs and citizens so that, each one can assume an active behavior that elevates the sustainability of the archipelago”.
