In July, São Miguel will host the GLEX 2021 – Global Exploration Summit, an event that brings together the greatest explorers in the world, which is committed to a worldwide effort to inspire everyone to protect the planet, animal species and natural resources.
Organized by Expanding World and the Explorers Club of New York, the 2021 edition will take place in Lisbon and Ponta Delgada between the 6th and 10th of July. The event, which will be broadcast on GLEX Summit’s own digital channels, is attended by explorers and scientists from around the world.
In the Azores, as a result of a joint action between the Azores Tourism Association | ATA and the Government of the Azores, the main themes of the conference are space, ocean and polar exploration. Other themes will also be included such as the conservation of natural sanctuaries, environmental sustainability of the planet, climate change and natural phenomena.
According to the Executive Director of the Azores Tourism Association | ATA, Luís Capdeville Botelho, this is an incredible opportunity for the region, which, as a Sustainable Host Partner at the event, will reinforce its positioning as a sustainable archipelago.
The GLEX Summit 2021 will feature renowned scientists and explorers such as: Nina Lanza, NASA’s lead team in charge of the Perseverance Rover on its voyage to Mars; Richard Garriott, astronaut and new president of the Explorers Club of New York; Alan Stern, NASA astrophysicist and aerospace engineer; and Brian Cox, one of the BBC’s best-known science program hosts.
