Azorean government investment improves Faial’s waste management capabilities

On 11 July 2024, the Regional Government of the Azores inaugurated the restructuring of the Waste Processing Centre (CPR) on the island of Faial. This investment aims to improve Faial’s waste management capacities, including the creation of specific composting areas for bio-waste from selective collection and the acquisition of equipment. The implementation of bio-waste selective collection systems is crucial for the Circular Economy, which promotes the closing of the material cycle and guarantees the quality of recyclables. In 2019, biodegradable municipal waste accounted for 47.81% of undifferentiated municipal waste in the Azores, demonstrating the importance of this initiative. The Azores are internationally recognized for their environmental quality, and the modernization of Waste Processing Centres is essential for the sustainable development of the region. Azores awarded “Best National Tourism Region” by Publituris

The Azores were honored as the “Best National Tourism Region” at the Publituris awards, reaffirming their prominent position on the Portuguese tourism scene. The Publituris Portugal Travel Awards 2024 took place in the city of Porto, in the presence of more than 400 people, and the prize awarded to the Azores was received by the Regional Director for Tourism, Rosa Costa. Azores awarded “Revelation Destination” by AHRESP

The Azores were honored with the “Revelation Destination – Azores Routes” award by AHRESP (Hotel, Restaurant and Similar Association of Portugal), highlighting the ongoing work of the Regional Government in promoting the tourism sector. The Azores Routes – Cultural and Landscape Itineraries project, which includes the Whaling Route, the Volcanoes Route, the Wine Route and the Cheese Route, was created to diversify the tourist offer and highlight the cultural richness of the archipelago’s nine islands. Bensaude Hotels Collection saves water for more than 294,000 showers

Bensaude Hotels Collection has revealed that it has managed to save water enough for more than 294,000 showers, as well as gas enough to cook 6,046 meals and diesel enough to travel around Portugal from north to south 19 times through conservation initiatives. These savings reflect the company’s ongoing efforts to adopt sustainable practices to reduce its environmental impact. “New Elderly” programme with another 40 home careers
