CORVO ISLAND TURNS OFF PUBLIC LIGHTING TO SAVE MACARONESIAN BIRD

The island of Corvo, is promoting a cut of public lighting to save the shearwaters (Calonectris borealis), a Macaronesian seabird, until November 10.
This year, the general blackout of public lighting will be measured by a Light Pollution Laboratory, through the network of photometers installed in Corvo, which measure the brightness of the sky and natural nights.
According to SPEA, 25% of the juveniles marked with metal rings, are recaptured during the SOS Cagarro Campaign, after disorientation by the lights in Corvo.
